Kumarakom Lake Resot - Kerala

The next destination after Munnar was Kumarakom Lake Resort, which was on my mind for a long time. It was one of my dreams to stay in this resort.

Located in the Kottayam district in Kerala, Kumarakom Lake Resort is a place in itself.  This is a Peaceful resort on the Backwater of Kerala with lush greenery everywhere. There are many other five star resorts in the same location but nothing beats Kumarakom Lake Resort.  I had read a lot about Kumarakom lake resort but as stated above this was my first time with them and it lived up to its award winning reputation.

As you enter the reception area it gives you a very authentic Keralite feel with colorful painting hanging on the wall, wooden furniture and low ceiling. The staff is dressed in a traditional off white sari with golden border and the guys wear a simple cream shirt with a Lungi. As you proceed further you are welcomed with natural gush of wind and the beautiful landscape keeps you mesmerized for some time.

We had booked a Heritage villa with Private pool which was truly sublime, a large beautifully appointed bedroom with outside bathroom, a porch with lovely sitting area …and…and … the most lovely private pool with Jacuzzi.  Could anyone ask for more?

Private Pool with Jaccuzi

I just loved the grounds of the resort which are beautifully maintained and the other pool villas looked very good too…they all are placed on either side of a ribbon of azure clear water…a sort of ribbon pool that gives their guests a chance to enjoy a private pool experience as well.  There is a separate infinity pool which overlooks the lake and is beautiful.  The sunset cruise was good soothing experience with some local traditional live music played on the boat.

The Infinity Pool

Our morning would start at 06.30 hours with a pot of our favorite masala tea.  Out on our little veranda of the heritage villa I could sit and observe the soft sunshine which would bring the whole garden and its water channels alive whilst the bird-life tweeted and chirped and made them-selves busy.  The garden staff would be working and always wish with a smile as they picked up leaves and left the beautiful surroundings immaculate.  Then we would walk to the Pool Pavilion for the morning Yoga session.

After that…well the buffet delighted with dosas, eggs of any sort, breakfast dishes, fresh fruit like papaya and pineapple and masses of breads.  Then after some relaxed time in the room there would be a dip in our plunge pool with a burst of Jacuzzi followed by a glorious open shower.  The resort has many places to explore as well as indoor games,  Table tennis, Pool table, Carom, pottery making etc.  This kept us well occupied most of the time at the resort.

Indoor Activities

My most favorite memories are walking on the well maintained lawns and sitting at the edge of the infinity pool quietly observing the serene lake, or watching the sun go down in the evening …quite mesmerizing.  The early evenings were spent lazing around at the resort enjoying nature with a cup of tea in the well-manicured gardens.

Lazing around the pool

We stayed there for 3 days in all and to sum it up it was the most relaxing and refreshing experience specially the heritage room, getting up early in the morning for a session of yoga, sumptuous breakfast, relaxing a bit in the room and then to be taken by magic to that sublime private pool and its limpid warm water ….. Truly a small heaven on earth.

If you visit Kerala, then you should not miss an opportunity to stay at least once in this beautiful resort.

Will talk to you again,  till then take care.
