Food Festival at Minnara Masjid during Ramadan

Its a road that is less traveled on normal days, but during Ramadan the Minara Masjid lane at Mohammad Ali Road turns into a foodie's paradise from mouth-watering delicacies to the colorful display of deserts. All items are reasonable priced and would not burn a whole in your wallet.

On a Saturday night few of us friends visited Minara Masjid which is located at South Mumbai. This is something which we do every year during Ramadan. A night at Minara Masjid. it’s an experience in itself. If you are foodie and have a craving for non-veg food, then you should not miss the opportunity to visit Minara Masjid at least once during Ramadan.  It’s a food festival which starts only after opening the fast in the evening and picks up real steam only late hours in the night.

Its a hot and happening place during the month of Ramadan. You will find some famous loyal customers from Bollywood and television stars like Javed Jaffery, Preity Zinta, Rakshanda Khan among others enjoying their meal late at night.

Even at night Minara Masjid is buzzing with people, smell of good food drifting from every corner. While walking one has to be very careful as there are people neck to neck moving in and out. We specially go there to hog on Non-veg food which we call it as "Spare parts" :)). The reason being if you see the dish served there then this name is apt for it. The stalls offer Meat Kebabs, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tandoori Khichda, Liver, Kidney, Brain Fry Quail etc. The list is endless.....

After hogging on the main course you just can't miss the deserts out here. The deserts at  Suleman Usman Mithaiwala is amazing. There are different types of sweets  (mithai) available to tingle your taste buds, which comes in so many variety and flavor's like Mango, strawberry, chocolate etc. They also sell "sinful malai khaja, a flaky syrup pastry wrapped around a glob of cream.

Firni (a creamy dessert made of rice and milk that resembles rice pudding) at Suleman Usman Mithaiwala is awesome and worth trying, they have three types of Firni- regular (plain one in white color), Kesar and Mango, thou my favorite remains the regular one.

One thing you should not miss in dessert and that is Malpua with Rabri (a rich milk-based pancake fried in ghee and dipped in sugar syrup and served with rabri). Thou i will say it’s a sin to have Malpua as its loaded with calories, but then its alright to indulge once in a while :) isn't it ???  you can burn those calories buy running an extra mile for few days  :)

Then you have Rawa Halwa with puri which also tastes yummy  ....

Although our stomach was full but "Yeh Dil Maange More" and why not, its not every day you visit Minara Masjid, so we thought of having a Falooda at Badshah juice center (which is yet another famous joint) but unfortunately being so late (2.30 am in the morning) it was closed :( so i kept it pending for my next visit.

We had a blast hogging on all that was tempting and sinful. Most of the shops were open even at this late hour of night which was amazing so we ventured out on some window shopping before heading home, contended with our stomach and happy at our heart.

Hope you had a good time reading this post, as much as i have enjoyed drafting it. Leave me a comment if you like this post. Till then ... Ma Salamah !, Goodbye.
