Canon EOS 700D Camera

Hello Friends,

I am Dwarkesh Jhaveri, friends call me DJ.  Am very passionate about photography and to me each day is a learning experience in this field. Today I share with you all my experience about my new Canon EOS 700D camera.

It’s a simple question. Why am I taking pictures? What’s so special about photography compared to other visual art forms?

The biggest reason, I believe, is just the ability of capturing a moment as it happens with just a single click of a button. Sure, skilled and experience photographers may capture the scene in a more artistic manner compared to the casual snapper, but the key point is, you captured what you want to remember right then and there!

Our brain and its stored memory are amazing, you can piece together fragments of an event and relive the entire day with ease. If it’s a group event, all of you can recall every single detail collectively with just one photograph. The emotions a photograph can throw back at you can be overwhelming at times regardless of technical execution.

The ability of photography to connect to our past, associate us in an event, and preserve memories without words or interpretation makes it an influential hobby for all of us.

I have been using a point and shoot digital camera for last 7 years now have been thinking of upgrading to a DSLR.  I must say that the search had been ongoing for almost 2 years now.   I was not really sure of spending almost 75 K on a camera to satisfy my photography hobby.

Some products are so well known that they become the default choice for a lot of people. Not sure which smartphone to buy? Just get an iPhone.  Canon is another of these elite brands. When it comes to buying cameras – and SLRs in particular – a Canon feels like a safe bet

So finally I picked up Canon EOS 700D

The Canon EOS 700D is an excellent Digital SLR capable of producing excellent images, with good exposure, multiple options, including HDR, handheld night shot, 5fps continuous shooting, DIGIC 5 processor, and the Q. menu lets you change settings and options quickly. The touchscreen implementation is very good, being easy to use, quick and responsive, as well as allowing precise selection of options in the menus, and the high resolution 3 inch screen with 1040k dots looks excellent.

The Canon EOS 700D is a new DSLR camera that sits above the 600D at the top of Canon’s entry-level EOS line-up. The Canon EOS 700D is an extremely modest upgrade of the EOS 650D, with the only real changes being the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens which keeps noise to a minimum whilst focusing (useful for video), a 360° rotating shooting mode dial, a more durable finish and the ability to preview the effect of the “Creative Filters” in real time when working in Live View mode.

The 18 megapixel 700D offers a dual AF system which ensures sharp stills as well as continuous autofocus tracking when shooting movies, a 1,040,000-dot vari-angle LCD screen complete with touch-screen operation, a 63-zone metering sensor, standard ISO settings of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600), and 5fps continuous shooting.

The 700D’s video mode offers 1080p Full HD recording at 24/25/30fps and 720p HD capture at either 50 or 60fps, with full manual control over exposure and gain.

The 700D offers an improved finish and design, a new mode dial, improved live view with preview on creative filters, and new grid displays, as well as improved video options, which now let you use ISO 12800 which can at times be extremely useful in low light photography.  However please note that the noise levels are bit higher at ISO 12800.

If you are buying new and are looking for your first Digital SLR, then the Canon EOS 700D makes an excellent choice.  For greater flexibility in zoom I recommend canon 18-135 EFS STM lens.

The price in India for Canon 700D is approx. INR 75K with 18-135 EFS STM lens.  On my recent visit to shanghai I found the prices to be cheaper there and could manage to get one with international warranty for INR 57 K.  In India the prices are 30% higher.

Hope you find this post helpful and informative.
